Reminder to Pet Owners
Don Keck - 7/24/2010

We have received a number of complaints about pets roaming loose in the neighborhood, and about residents who are letting their dogs defecate on other neighbors' properties without then cleaning up their waste. These actions are not only un-neighborly, they are also a violation of the Cobb County Animal Control ordinance and carry fines that can be as high as $1,000 per offense. Briefly stated, the Cobb County Animal Control Ordinace requires that:
- Pets be physically restrained at all times when outdoors (by means of either a leash in the hands of a capable person or by a physical enclosure around the owner's property)
- Pet owners immediately clean up all waste left by their animals on public and other people's private property by picking up, bagging, and promptly disposing the waste in the pet owner's or a public trash receptacle.
Oakleigh residents must comply with these rules, and must carry plastic bags or poop-scoops when they walk their pets on subdivision sidewalks. Please comply with the rules to maintain our neigborhood safe, clean, and an enjoyable place for all. Complaints about stray or loose animals and nuisance pets should be directed to Cobb County Animal Control via their online forms or by calling 770-499-4136 between the hours of 8:00AM to 8:00PM.
Beware of outrageous transfer fee on sale of your home
Don Keck - 7/23/2010

While this does not affect Oakleigh (our Covenants do not have any private real estate transfer fees) it could affect anyone who buys into a newer subdivision. The buyer must read the Covenants before making a purchase. See links to this Wall Street Journal article and Washington Post article for more details.
Club House Renovations Completed
Don Keck - 7/19/2010
The Oakleigh HOA has completed its renovation of the Club House as planned for 2010. The exterior of the Club House has been painted as projected. We were able to paint not only the Club House but the pool buildings, benches and trellises in the pool area for the price originally budgeted for the Club House alone. That's twice the job for the same price. Only the Tennis Pavilion has not been done. It will be painted next spring.
In the process of painting the Club House it was discovered that the roof (which we had hoped to replace next year) had a significant number of major leaks that could not be left until next spring to repair. Also the pool building had a number of missing shingles. Therefore, the HOA found it necessary to replace these roofs immediately. Twenty eight sheets of decking had to be replaced before the new shingles could be installed. Nevertheless, we were able to replace all the shingled roofs with 30 year architectural shingles and add a ridge vent to the Club House roof for $2,000 less than originally estimated. The money to pay for the new roof will be transferred from the HOA's Reserve Funds, which are more than adequate to cover the cost.
The painting was done by Highland Park Painters. The roof was replaced by Findley Roofing.
Curb Painting of House Numbers
Don Keck - 7/1/2010
A number of outfits have been soliciting Oakleigh home owners to paint their addresses on the curb in front of their homes. For your information:
- You are NOT required by Oakleigh's Covenants or any HOA policy to paint your address on the curb in front of your house.
- Whether or not you choose to do so is entirely up to you. It is a matter of personal preference.
- The Oakleigh HOA has endorsed no one to paint curb numbers within the Oakleigh subdivision. No one is authorized to claim (or imply) that they have Oakleigh HOA approval to do so on behalf of the Association.
Community Blood Drive on Tuesday August 24, 2010
Rosalind Sanders - 6/19/2010
Together we can save a life. The need is constant. The gratification is instant. Give Blood. We are calling all Oakleigh Residents and neighboring subdivisions to participate in a community Blood Drive with our local chapter of The American Red Cross. The drive will take place Tuesday August 24, 2010 from 2-7PM at the Oakleigh Subdivision Clubhouse. Blood supplies tend to run critically lower during the summer months due to increased travel and vacations. TEENS are especially encouraged to donate. 16 years olds need to be accompanied by an adult to sign paper work. Please call Rosalind Sanders at 770-426-0059 to sign up to donate or help for a successful project.
